The Gumbo is the best I have had. The poor boy was good. (I do not like poor boys, but figured theirs would be good.) Service was great. Atmosphere was great.

If i could give this place negative stars i would! First our waitress was more interested in her phone than serving us. The bartender, oh the bartender, first i dont enjoy seeing someone applying makeup and brushing his or her hair not 5ft from my plate. I also dont like seeing someone to reach under the hem of their shorts to scratch an itch on their ass. Also i REALLY dont like someone to swat at flies and brush them in the direction of my table. My tuna steak was extremely bland and the vegetables were so overcooked they turned to mush on my plate. My husbands gumbo was really watery and also bland. The catfish was mediocre at best. It also puts a bad taste in my mouth to watch as every female waitress and the manager play with their hair and handke food. Its disgusting. I will never ever return.

Great Gumbo! You can get Chicken And Sausage, Seafood, or mixed. I had the mixed it was really good!

After hearing that the gumbo was very good, my family decided to take my mother there for dinner while visiting. From the moment we walked in and I asked for a table for 7, the waitress was visibly bothered. The place wasn't even half full of patrons so it shouldn't have been an issue. From this point forward everything was an issue. Waitress was snippy and rude and the main reason seemed to be that we had the misfortune of sitting in her section. However things got worse when we got no plates to eat our appetizers on, we had the audacity to ask for a cold mug for beer, and finally, how dare we ask for our gumbo to be served anything other than lukewarm?

I think this place is overrated. Never impressed with food. Must be a place for regulars bc everyone stares like your from another world and the first time we went, the waitress was friggin horrible. I think she was high or something. Second time we tried nobody was there at all so of course we had a good waiter.

We were sent there for their cajun food by the hotel in which we are staying. Out of everything we had, the gumbo was the best. It was actually a darn good bowl of gumbo. Everything else (including the interior) felt like a college restaurant. It is outdated and blah. The food came out to us prepared correctly, but no thought really put into the plating or creativity of the menu. The service was friendly and responsive but not really helpful. I hate when you ask, "what is good here?" and they answer "everything" in that non-ironic way. Now if everything is really good (which it never is by restaurants that answer this way) then your response is far. But most of the time this answer is a cover up for lack of knowledge about the menu or food in general. Out of all the places we have eaten in Lake Charles this would not be on the top of my list to return to in the future.

Steaks are best in town; simple, no fancy reduction sauces, just well-cooked, and excellent cuts. Best dish is the chicken fried chicken; thick and juicy. Hamburgers are good, but the chicken sausage gumbo is great Best get there early as loyal clientele fills up the place on weekends and week nights. Service is personable and responsive.

Another great place for lunch in the Lake Charles area. The gumbo was excellent and the po boys are great. The beef brisket po boy was delicious, and I understand the oyster po boy is also recommended. The interior is casual and fun - Mardi Gras posters line the walls and beads hang from the archway leading into one of the dining areas.
